Twitter.com Hijacked by Iranian Cyber Army

E-mail

For two hours on Thursday all visitors to the popular Twitter web site were redirected to a site claiming to be the Iranian Cyber Army.  According to a representative from Dyn, Inc., the Manchester NH domain name registrar responsible for Twitter's DNS registration, "This wasn't so much the job of hackers or a security breach on our part; it was more a matter of someone who simply knew or was able to guess Twitter's password.  A guess is unlikely since Twitter cleverly used a time-honored encryption method for their password which happens to be 'rettiwt'.  You probably shouldn't print that last part.  Are we on the record?"  Twitter management was not available for comment but the receptionist we spoke with indicated that security is important to Twitter and that she, for one, makes a point of keeping important company passwords on a sticky note that is affixed to the edge of her monitor which is almost always facing away from the public.
