White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs announced that Vice President Joe Biden, who has been missing since December 18, is taking some time to hike the Appalachian Trail.  When asked if this was a euphemism indicating that Biden had secretly flown to South America to rendezvous with an Internet mistress, Gibbs replied "No, that's not what I meant.  I don't think Joe's that kind of guy."  Another reporter then asked, "If he's really on the Appalachian Trail, isn't it dangerously cold this time of year for a man of his age to be going on extended hikes?"  Gibbs responded, "Ya, hmm, I guess we didn't really think that one through.  You see, Joe never said that he was going hiking, we came up with that one ourselves.  We don't really know where he is, but we figured the hiking thing was a good way for all of us, you guys included, to enjoy some continued peace and quiet around here without actually having to go look for him.  So just cool it with the questions, ok?"
