President Obama's State of the Union address is scheduled for Wednesday, January 27, 2010. The yearly address which is given to a Joint Session of Congress is mandated in the U.S. Constitution. As part of the procedure leading up to the State of the Union, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid sent a letter today to President Obama formally inviting him to deliver the address. In a hand-written postscript, Senator Reid warmly pointed out to the President that "this speech is an important thing and if you dress well, wear a tie, and try to be on time it will reflect well on all colored people". He also gently reminded the President to use his best "non-Negro dialect".
