Brett Favre quietly retired during the Vikings 26-7 loss to the Carolina Panthers thereby ending one the greatest careers in NFL history. Moments later he once again came out of retirement. Because the entire episode took place during a Carolina possession and Favre rejoined the Vikings upon resurrecting his career, it wasn't apparent to anyone but Favre himself that anything had actually happened until he mentioned it to someone after the game. Upon hearing the news, the Vikings coaching staff were quick to point to this previously unnoticed event as a possible explanation for the thumping that the 11-and-3 Vikings had received at the hands of Carolina.
