In a televised speech on Wednesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad mistakenly referred to his own country as 'Iraq'. A spokesman for the Iranian leadership tried to downplay the gaff saying "It's a common mistake and was merely a slip of the tongue. President Ahmadinejad is a proud Iranian and in no way was he actually confusing our great nation with that of our neighbor Iran, I mean Iraq".
