Four weeks after a violent earthquake devastated Haiti, President Obama gave a speech today urging people "to take action in the aid of a country in dire need". The President then presented a laundry list of troubling conditions including a "country in ruins", "infrastructure in a state of collapse", and "make-shift health provisions". He went on to say that "There is also a larger systemic problem. Even before the recent crisis, the people struggled under a failing economy, widespread unemployment, crippling foreign debt, and only recently had managed to free themselves from the leadership of a despotic warlord. However despite all of these problems, I believe in America's future and I think we can still afford to help out in Haiti."
